Grand Exalted Ruler

A Message from the Grand Exalted Ruler
Hon. Bryan R. Klatt
There is much to commemorate in May

In May, we have numerous programs to Be The Difference: National Youth Week, Mother’s Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day.

The first week of the month, May 1-7, is Elks National Youth Week. Honor the youth in your community at the end of their school year.

A variety of certificates are available online, including ones for Student/Teenager of the Year/Month and the Elks JROTC Awards Program.

Happy Mother’s Day to the important ladies in our lives. Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 10. We need to extend our heartfelt thanks to all mothers. If possible, find a way to honor the mothers in your life and plan a Lodge activity to let them know how much they mean to us.

Many of us may not automatically think of Armed Forces Day, which honors those currently serving in the U.S. military, held this year on Saturday, May 16. It was designated as a day for the unification of the armed forces to be celebrated together instead of celebrating each branch individually. God bless our troops who served throughout the history of our country.

Memorial Day is Monday, May 25. It is a wonderful time when we can recognize and commemorate the men and women of all services for their sacrifices and hard work that kept our country safe and prosperous.

Elks have a heart for remembering our departed service members by attending or participating in a Memorial Day parade, working at a cemetery ceremony, assisting in putting flags at service members’ graves, or planning a memorial ceremony at your Lodge.

Always remember to Be The Difference by promoting “Elks Care—Elks Share.”

Who could believe we are a third of the way through 2026 already! Time really flies when you’re having fun, which is exactly what we’ve had in the past few months. Awarding scholarships, recognizing Teens of the Year and exceptional high school Juniors – just a bit of the fun we’ve had so far this year.

We finished the 2025/26 year with 218 members, up two from last year! We initiated 19 new members; lost 5 to death; granted transfers to 4 members; granted 3 absolute dimits; and lost 5 members to lapsation. Our State Membership Chairman, Harry Montag, is pleased that we are in the “PLUS” column!

As always, please don't hesitate to contact me if you have questions or need assistance with all things Elk. There is voicemail on the lodge phone, or you may contact me as below. See you at the Lodge!

Leading Knight
Dave Shoff

Until a new Exalted Ruler is elected, the three Lodge Knights will alternate with a column in the Elk-o-Gram.

Greetings from Lincoln Lodge #80,

As Leading Knight, it falls to me this month to bring you the news from the Lodge, and I'm honored to do so.

One of the things that drew me deeper into the Elks was the alignment between what we say we value and what we actually do. Our support of youth programs is one of the clearest expressions of that. I've spent decades in Scouting myself, and I can tell you firsthand that the Elks' commitment to Scouting — through Eagle Scout recognition, NYLT support, and the quiet generosity that keeps units running — makes a real difference to young people becoming leaders in our community. Every Scout who reaches Eagle does so with adults around him or her, and our Lodge is part of that circle for many.

We have several events coming up that I hope you'll join us for:

First Responder's Dinner — Saturday, May 2nd, 5:30 to 8:00 PM. An evening to honor those who heed the call to go when the rest of us are heading the other way. Bring a first responder you know; we'd love to thank them in person.

Burger Night — Tuesday, May 12th, 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Good food, good company, no fuss. Bring a friend.

Veterans Coffee House — Friday, May 15th, 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Auld Pavilion. A standing welcome to those who served and those who walk alongside them.

Thank you for the trust you've placed in this year's officers. We'll keep the work going.

— Dave
